New ensign for Luxembourg?

The president of the biggest Luxembourg parliament faction CSV (Chreschtlech Sozial Vollekspartei) Michel Wolter, informed the press about his intention to introduce a petition to the parliament, which suggests the replacement of the current Luxembourg ensign. The current ensign shows three horizontally stripes, just like the German ensign. But instead of black-red-gold, the Luxembourg colours are red-white-blue. This flag was established in 1972 and modified in 1993. At that time the usuall dark blue was replaced by the light blue Pantone 299C. The "Tricolore" was often accused of mistaking with the Netherlands ensign. Therefore many Luxembourger still prefer the "roude LÃ©iw" (red lion). This flag shows a red lion on a blue-white field. The "roude LÃ©iw" reffers to the 13th Century an was originally the family crest of the nobility of Luxembourg.

The suggestion made by Michel Wolter, to replace the "Tricolore" with the "roude LÃ©iw", faces big support from the population, quite contrary to the parliament. According to a recent survey enforced by the radio station "RTL Radio Luxembourg", over 90% of the respondents agree with Michel Wolters suggestion. The chairpersons of all other parliament factions showed few appreciation for Michel Wolters advance. The only exception is Gast Gyberien chairperson of the ADR (Alternativ Demokratesch Reformpartei).

New flag of Venezuela

On 7th of March 2006 the Venezuelan parliament decided a change of the emblem on the Venezuelan national flag. This change became effective on 12th of March 2006 - the official day of the flag (DÃa de la Bandera).

The following changes had been conducted:

In the left upper corner of the emblem the number of cereal spikes, which symbolize the current number of Venezuelan federal states, was increased from 20 up to 24. In the right upper corner of the emblem in addition to the wappons, which symbolize the liberty combat, an arrow and a bow as well as a machete have been added. This change honors the involvement of the indigenous populace and the African slaves during the liberty combat.

The horse, positioned in the blue field below, changed itÂ´s direction of gallop from right to left.

Furthermore, an eight star was added to the flag.

The seven white stars on the blue band stand for the seven provinces, which carried the liberty. The in 2006 added eight star reffers to a decree of SimÃ³n BolÃvars from 1817, that says through impelmentation of an eight star, the liberty of Guayana should be honored as well.
